Mrs. William Alexander Wolcott, former resident, died at her home at Spirit Lake Sunday following a stroke which she suffered Saturday morning. Funeral services were held at Spirit Lake Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs. Wolcott was the wife of Reverend William Alexander Wolcott, retired Methodist minister. They lived in Hawarden following Reverend Wolcott’s retirement from the ministry and operated a grocery business for two or three years in the building now occupied by Carl Olsen’s grocery store. They disposed of the business about 1919 or 1920 to R.A. Enright who conducted the store for a year or two. Mr. and Mrs. Wolcott and family moved from here to Arthur, Iowa, and later went to Spirit Lake.

Minnie Drake was born May 22, 1856, at North Morrowville, Ohio, so was just past 81 years of age at the time of death. She was the daughter of Judge and Mrs. Frederick C. Drake. She was married to Reverend Mr. Wolcott January 1, 1879, and recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary.

Surviving are her husband; two sons, Reverend J.D. Wolcott of Armstrong, Iowa, a Methodist minister, and Harry Wolcott of Spirit Lake; four daughters, Miss Clara Wolcott of St. Joseph, Missouri; Mrs. Frank Brown of Sioux City, Dr. Ruth Wolcott of Spirit Lake and Miss Jessie Wolcott, a Methodist Missionary stationed at Nanking, China; three sisters, a brother, and six grandchildren. All but Miss Jessie Wolcott were at the bedside of Mrs. Wolcott when she died.
