Dennis Lee Weber, 18, a former Hawarden resident, has been reported killed in action. He was a United States Marine serving in Viet Nam.

Word was received by the youth’s mother, Mrs. Emma Weber, of Mechaniesville, Iowa, on the night of December 14 via telephone from a Marine officer in Davenport, Iowa.

Dennis, a member of the Third Marine Division, had been in Viet Nam since September of this year and in the Marines since November 3, 1963.

He lived in Hawarden vicinity when a young boy, later moving to Mechaniesville where he attended public schools. He was a brother-in-law of Mary (Storts) Weber and Sophie (Groen) Weber, both former Hawarden residents.

Survivors include his mother of Mechaniesville; his father, Henry, of Sioux City; six brothers, Luverne. Merle, Donnie, Kenneth, William and Harold, and four sisters, Elvera, Marlene, Carol and Shari, all of Mechaniesville
