Raymond Joseph Benson, 69, of Hawarden, died Thursday, June 23, 1988, in Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. Services were 2 p.m. Saturday, June 25,1988 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Loren Vogler officiating. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery. Casket bearers were Verlyn Zwart,Ken Kingma, Lorenz Janssen, Herman Holtkamp, Lawrence Muth and Merle Solberg.

Mr. Benson was born May 23, 1919, on the Benson farm northeast of Hawarden. He married Arlene Schlumbohm December 26, 1943, in Peace Lutheran Church, rural Sioux Center. The couple farmed northeast of Hawarden until 1980 when they retired and moved into Hawarden. Mr. Benson was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. James (Sharon) Busch of Sioux Falls and Mrs. Greg (Janet) Schmieding of Plymouth, MN; four sisters, Agnes Creamer of Chamberlain, SD, Gladys Treiber of Sioux Falls, Hazel Nelson of Haines, AK, and Lois Harker of Hawarden, and five granddaughters.
