From the Rock Valley Bee, May 19, 1911:
Isaac Vander Sluis who has been town marshal of Orange City for five years, died Wednesday afternoon of pneumonia, after an illness of about a week. Mr. Vander Sluis was 41 years of age. Previous to taking the position of marshal he was night policeman for eleven years. The funeral was held Thursday afternoon from the American Reformed church, Rev. McEwan officiating. The remains were interred at Maurice, Ia.

From the Pella Chronicle, May 18, 1911:
Marshall I. Van der Sluis died yesterday afternoon after an illness of only about one week. The immediate cause of his death was pneumonia. He was born in Pella in 1870 and came to this county [Sioux] in the early days. In 1891 he was married to Miss Jennie Van der Meer, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Vander Meer, and located on a farm near Middleburg. In 1896 he was appointed nightwatch and deputy marshall by the town council of Orange City and after serving ten years in this capacity became city Marshall and street commissioner, which position he held until his death.
Mr. Vander Sluis leaves a wife, and a large family to mourn his decease. He was a member of the Modern Woodman and the Yeomen and carried insurance in both. The funeral will be held Friday, the services at the house will begin at one o'clock and at the American Reformed church at one thirty. The interment will take place in the cemetery at Maurice where his father is buried. S. C. [Sioux County] Herald.

From the Alton Democrat, May 20, 1911:
I. Vander Sluis died at his home in Orange City Wednesday May tenth 1911. He was born in Pella Iowa in 1870 and that year came with his parents to Sioux county. On February sixteenth 1891 he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Vander Meer. This union was blessed with seven children all of whom survive. Deceased had been in the employ of the town of Orange City for the past fifteen years. The first ten as night watch and the last five as marshal. Mr. Vander Sluis had served the city well and was one of its respected citizens. He was a member of the Woodmen and Yeoman lodges.
The funeral services were held from the American Reformed church at Orange City Friday May twelfth. The services were conducted by Rev. D. McEwan, pastor of the church. During the funeral services all the business houses were closed out of respect for the departed. Mayor H. Slikkerveer and Councilmen Jim Kraay, Fred Michels, Jno. Eerkes, Dick De Cook and Jno. Van Eizenga acted as pall bearers. Many beautiful floral emblems were in evidence. Interment was made at Maurice. Deceased is survived by his wife, his mother and brother residing at Maurice and seven children--all at home--Cornie, Nettie, Charley, John, Carrie, Rinzilla and Clara.
