Died: March 14, 1988Harry G. Kobes, 81, of Orange City died Monday, March 14, in a hospital in Orange City.
Services were at 10 A.M. Friday, March 18, at First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City with the Reverend Ralph Pontier officiating. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery.
Kobes was born August 12, 1906, at Muscatine. He married Mildred Meyers in Sioux City April 24, 1928. The couple made their home in Sioux City where he was employed by Sioux City Light & Power, the Sioux City Journal and ABC Sign Company. In 1949 they moved to Orange City where he operated a jewelry store. Since 1954 he had represented Amway and Raleigh products. He was known for his development of Kobes Gardens. His wife died December 17, 1980, in Orange City.
He was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church.
Survivors include four sons, Harry Jr. of Sioux City, Eugene of Binghamton, New York, Jerry of Sioux Falls and John of Walnut, California; two brothers, Edward and Albert, both of Sioux City; two sisters, Clazena Salek of Muscatine and Margaret Hilton of Antioch, California; 14 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
