John was born May 20, 1923 at Lynnville Iowa, son of Henry and Lizzie (Maassen) Huyser. The family moved to the Inwood area when John was young. John married Matilda De Vries on May 21, 1943 at Rock Valley, IA. Together they farmed near Inwood, Doon, and Rock Rapids, IA before retiring to Doon in 1989. Matilda "Til" died October 4, 1997. John had served in the U.S. Army Air Force from Feb. 13, 1944 to Feb. 16, 1946.

John died January 9, 2000 at Hegg Memorial Hospital in Rock Valley. He was 76 years, 7 months and 19 days of age.

Surviving relatives include two sons and their wives, John Jr. and Marlys of Doon, IA, Mike and Ginger of Freeman, S.D.; three daughters and their husbands, Carol and Harlan Van Voorst of Sioux Falls, S.D., Helen and George Jr. Burgers of Larchwood, IA, Nancy and Dennis Van Der Weide of Boyden, IA; son-in-law Randy Slade of Steen, MN; one brothers and his wife, Ray and Katherine Huyser of Rock Valley; two sisters Freda and her husband Jake Van Voorst of Inwood, IA, Stella Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley, IA; sister-in-law Mary Huyser of Inwood, IA; twenty five grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his wife "Til", daughter Patsy Sue Slade; grandson Clint Van Der Weide; brother Cornie Huyser.
