From the Rock Valley Bee, April 7, 1911:
Thos. Fitzgerald Passed Away
Thomas Fitzgerald was born in Limirick[sic], Ireland in the year 1849[sic] and died at his home three miles east of Inwood April 4, 1911, at the age of 64 years and 6 months.
Deceased came to America when a babe and lived near Dwight, Ill., until 1872 when he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Crerman [?, text is indistinct]. They came west and located in Lyon county, in the vicinity of Inwood, where they have since lived. Eight children came to brighten their home, three of whom have passed on to that better land. Those who survive are T. A.; Thos. Jr.; Patrick and Margeret who live at home and Mrs. E. J. Holloran of Campus, Ill. Besides the widow and children there also remain of the immediate family three brothers and one sister, as follows: Patrick of Rock Valley, Edward of Chicago, Tim of Dwight, Ill., and Mrs. Wm. Hallaran of Campus, Ill.
Mr. Fitzgerald had been failing all winter but was not confined to his bed until the last two weeks prior to his death. While his death was not unexpected it came as a shock to all. He was esteemed and respected by those who knew him best and will be missed from his large circle of friends.
It is impossible for words to express what the removal of a husband and father means and we can only commend the bereaved ones to the infinite care of Him who doeth all things well. The relatives have the sincere sympathy of their many friends in their hour of affliction. The funeral services were held Thursday morning at ten o'clock from St. Mary's church in Rock Valley. Interment was made in the Catholic cemetery.
