The first victim of the heat in this part of the state was Miss Mina Albertha Hulstein, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Conrad G. Hulstein. She died early Tuesday morning of scarlet fever and the heat of Sunday proved to be too great for her. For a few hours she ran a fever of approximately 114 which was abated by cold packs. The Hulstein home is still quarantined and Fred is now ill with the disease.
Miss Hulstein was to be eighteen this June. She was born on the same farm she was living on at the time of her death. The farm is four and one half miles northwest of here.
She is survived by her parents, two brothers, Fred and Albertus, and Emma and Etta are twin sisters as are Minerva and Winerva.
Services were held Tuesday afternoon in the yard at the home and a brief service was conducted at the Carmel Cemetery where she was interred. Rev. W. Rottschaeffer officiated.
