Died: July 19, 1953 Rock Valley, Iowa

On Sunday July 19, death claimed another Rock Valley pioneer in the person of Mrs. Fred H. Klein who died at her home at the age of 72 years, 11 months and 26 days.

Annie Gayer was born the youngest daughter of Jacob and Johanna Gayer at Illengen, Germany, on July 23, 1881. At the age of four years she came with her parents and brothers and sisters to this country and soon after coming they settled in this community where she grew to womanhood. On October 3, 1901 she was united in marriage to Fred H. Klein of Rock Valley and to this union ten children were born. One daughter died in infancy. She is survied by her husband and nine children as follows; Karl of Sac City, IA; Hulda (Mrs. Harry Kersbergen) of Rock Valley; Mabel, (Mrs. Frank Kersbergen) of Luverne, MN; Arthur of Rock Valley; Reuben, Long Beach, CA; Lloyd of Rock Valley; Esther, (Mrs. John Vande Weerd) of Stockton, ILL; Rose, (Mrs. Marzo Kessler) and Robert both of Rock Valley. She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Her parents and all her brothers and sisters preceded her in death.

In October 1951 the couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary--an occasion to which she had looked forward for many years and of which she held many fond memories. All of their children were present for this event.

Mrs. Klein was a member of Our Savior Lutheran church and was an active member of the Ladies Aid. She also retained her membership in the Lutheran Ladies Aid at Hull for it was that church the family attended many years.

Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock at the home and at 2 o'clock at the church near Hull on Wednesday July 22, Pallbearers were all nephews of Mrs. Klein. Karl Plueger, Karl Callies, Fred Gayer, Lloyd Gayer, Karl Miller and William Gayer.
