Mrs. Slayton (Delma) Newman, 81, of Byron, AR, formerly of Hawarden, died Saturday, April 27, 1985, in a hospital in Salem, AR. Services were at 1:3G p.m. Wednesday in the First Baptist Church in Hawarden. Rev. Lee Christopherson officiated. Burial was in Grace Hill Cemetery under direction of Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden. Mrs. Newman, the former Delma Blackwell, was born June 21, 1903, in Greenville, KY. She moved to Hawarden in 1918 and married Slayton Newman June 21, 1920, at Elk Point, SD. They made their home in Hawarden until 1961 when they moved to Byron.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Estel E. and Slayton W., both of Mountain Home, AR, and Carrol A. of Byron; five daughters, Agnes E. Nilson of Elizabeth, AR, Merion M. Vanderham of Akron, June M. Vanden Berg of Orange City, Donna D. Vermeer of Horseshoe Bend, AR, and Joyce M. Langerman of Minneapolis, MN; 39 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren and four great-greatgrandchildren. Pallbearers were Darold Vanderham, Daniel Vanderham, Steven Newman,
Jeffrey Venneer, Kyle Vermeer, Mark VanderBerge.
