From the Hull Index, December 23, 1910:

James Tobin.

Saturday morning the people of Hull were greatly surprised when the news came to town that James Tobin had passed away. He had been ailing for some time but not seriously--the night before being quite well for him--with a cold, but a sudden turn came and he was called to meet those of his family who had gone before.

The funeral was held Monday--services at the house at 10 a.m., and at the church at 11, Rev. Father Cooper, of Alvord officiating. The remains were laid away in the Catholic cemetery. A large number of friends gathered at both places to show their respect for the departed.

James Tobin was born in County Cork, Ireland, in the year 1847. He came to America in 1868 and in 1870 he went to California. Not liking the country there he came back to Sioux City in 1871 in which year he homesteaded the piece of land upon which he lived when he died, having resided on it nearly forty years.

Mr. Tobin was a home loving man, seldom making calls on his neighbors, yet a man, by his quiet ways, made and retained nearly all who became acquainted with him, loyal friends, all of whom will miss him.

As far a we know he left but few relatives none that we know of except Miss Kate Tobin, a niece, who has kept house for him for the past ten years, and her brother, who arrived Monday evening too late to attend the funeral.
