Services Held July 27 for Fred Grevengoed

Fred Grevengoed, 88, was born March 4, 1867 in Puilen, Netherlands. He came to the United States in October, 1909 and moved to the Rock Valley vicinity July, 1928.

Mr. Grevengoed married Geertje Vande Kemp in the Netherlands in 1904. Mrs. Grevengoed preceded him in death in 1910. He lived in the Lebanon community until 1917 when he moved to this community with his sister, Mrs. H. Vande Burgt. He was a member of the First Christian Reformed hurch.

Mr. Grevengoed submitted to surgery in the Sioux Center hospital Tuesday, July 19 and died Sunday evening, July 24, 1955. Survivors are Miss Hattie Grevengoed, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Neal Hulstein (Helen) of Denver and 5 grand children. Gerrit Grevengoed, a son, died at South Holland, Ill., and an infant daughter died in the fall of 1910.

Funeral services were held at the First Christian Reformed church in Rock Valley with the Rev. C. Huissen officiating. Burial was Wednesday, July 27, at Valley View cemetery.

The 1910 U.S. census had living in Garfield township, Sioux County: Grevengoed, Frederik, age 43, born Holland, married 5 years, a farm laborer; wife Geertje (38); daughters Heirrtje (4) and Helena (3); and son Gerrit (2). The family immigrated in 1909.

In 1920 he was living in Sioux Township on a farm with his widowed sister Gertie Vandeburgt and her children. In 1940 he was living in Rock Valley with his sister Gertie Vander Burgt (59) and her son Gerrit (20).
