From the Rock Valley Bee, Dec. 16, 1910, p. 7:

Death of Mrs. Groevengood

Mrs. Fred Groevengood died very suddenly at her home southwest of Rock Valley Thursday evening of last week. She had not been well for several weeks but her sickness was not considered serious. On the day of her death she was as well as usual. She died at about 9:30 p.m. shortly after she had retired for the evening. She was thirty-nine years and six months old. She was born in Netherlands where she spent her early life having come to this country only recently. She was a kind and loving wife and mother and was held in the highest regard by all who knew her. Funeral services were held at Lebanon Saturday at 11 a.m. conducted by Rev. Harmsma. The bereaved family have the heartfelt sympathy of many friends in their neighborhood.

The surname is presumed to be Grevengoed; several others with this spelling appear in the Sioux County obituaries and the Sioux County Cemetery Index. The Cemetery Index has Grevengoed, F. Mrs., no dates, buried Lebanon Cem Lebanon IA. Fred Grevengoed's obituary, posted separately, identifies his wife as Geertje Vande Kemp.

The 1910 U.S. census had living in Garfield township, Sioux County: Grevengoed, Frederik, age 43, born Holland, married 5 years, a farm laborer; wife Geertje (38); daughters Heirrtje (4) and Helena (3); and son Gerrit (2). The family immigrated in 1909.
