From the Hull Index, October 12, 1900:

On Sunday the home of Fred Wiese, northwest of town, was saddened by the death of the only son of the household, Fred, a lad of about eleven years of age. He had been ill but a few days. His father says that off and on he had complained of not feeling extra well during the past few weeks, but it was thought nothing particularly was the matter with him. Last week, in company with his father, he visited the Sioux City Carnival. They visited many of the attractions and while in the city, Fred complained of having a headache and not feeling well in his stomach. They returned Thursday night and on Friday the lad still complained, though being up and around as usual. On Saturday morning he felt worse and a physician was summoned. Dr. Coad decided at once that something was wrong with the boy internally and Dr. Cram of Sheldon, was sent for to assist in performing an operation should it be deemed advisable. The two decided that the boy was past help and on Sunday morning he breathed his last.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the Lutheran church, northeast of Hull, the interment took place in the cemetery adjoining the church. A large number of friends and neighbors gathered at the Wiese home to accompany the remains of their neighbor's only son to the church yard, thus showing their respect for and kindly sympathetic interest in their friends in the hour of their sorrow.

The loss comes most severely on the family, for as Mr. Wiese said to the writer, "he was our only boy." Fred was his father's namesake and was just reaching the age when he could be a companion and help to his father and the pride of his mother. The family will have the sympathy of the entire community in the sorrow and affliction that has befallen them.

(The Sioux County Cemetery Index has Wiese, Frederick C., b. 24 Sep 1889 d. 7 Oct 1900 St Pauls Luth Cem Hull IA)
