Died: October 7, 1993 Sioux Center, Iowa

Mary Huisman, 89, of Sioux Center, died Thursday, Oct. 7, 1993 at the Sioux Center Health Care Center. Graveside services were held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, Oct. 11 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Sioux Center. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. at Central Reformed Church, Sioux Center. The Rev. Dennis Wilcox officiated. Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Huisman was born Dec. 1, 1903 near Orange City, the daughter of Balka and Gertrude (Cupido) Ekema. She married Jake Huisman Jan. 29, 1925 in Orange City. The couple lived in Orange City and Carmel and moved to Sioux Center in 1948. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Huisman was a member of Central Reformed Church, Sioux Center.

Survivors include a son, Wilbur and his wife Tena of Sioux Center; a daughter and her husband, Shirley and Wayne Vermeer of Clearwater, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bernard Huisman of Sioux Center; a brother, John Ekema of Redlands, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Bernard and Veryl Don; a grandson, Jerry Lee Huisman; a brother and a sister.
