Died: June 17, 2006 Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Mr. Donald Hoonhorst, age 61, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, formerly of Orange City, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2006 at his residence in Sioux Falls.

There will be a graveside service on Saturday June 17 a 10:a.m. at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Oolman Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Donald Herman was born on April 24, 1945, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Henry and Frieda (Wendell) Hoonhorst. He was raised in Michigan, until his father died in the late 1950s. He then moved to Ashton, where he lived with John and Dorothy Byker. He graduated from high school and attended the Northwest Iowa Technical College in Sheldon.

During the Vietnam Conflict, he served in the United States Army from May of 1963 to June of 1969. On October 12, 1963 he married Linda Jean Van Kley in Waynesville, Missouri. That marriage ended in 1979.

Don and Linda lived in Germany and in Arizona, Kansas and Iowa in the United States. In 1971 they moved to Orange City, where he was a welder for Siouxland Harvestore. Later, he was a trucker and then a flagman for Fort Dodge Road Construction.

In 2002, he became a resident of Valley Manor in Rock Valley. He moved to Sioux Falls in November of 2004.

Mr. Hoonhorst was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. He enjoyed gardening, raising turkeys and ducks, playing Yahtzee, and visiting with everyone.

Survivors include his three daughters and their husbands, Susan and Russell Plueger and Jeanne and Greg Lammers, all of Le Mars; and Donella and Kelly Reum of Sioux Falls; a son Don M. Hoonhorst of Worthington, MN.; six grandchil
dren; a great grand-grandchild; five brothers and their wives, Rich and Lois, Ed and Joanne, Dave and Kyle, Bob and Mary, Fred and Gloria Hoonhorst; sister, Marg Ratz; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wendy and Harold Hoonhorst.
