Mrs. Anna Jean Hofmeyer, age 86, of Hospers, passed away Saturday, February 20, 1999, in the Long Term Care Facility of the Orange City Municipal Hospital. Memorial services were held on Tuesday, February 23, at 10:00 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church in Hospers with the Rev. Brian Janssen officiating. Interment was held prior to the service at the Memorial Cemetery, east of Hospers, under the direction of the Oolman Funeral Home of Orange City.
Anna Jean was bom May 13, 1912, at Orange City, the daughter of John K. and Jeanette (Bogaard) Ver Steeg. She was raised at Orange City, where she graduated from the Northwestern Classical Academy.
On April 4, 1930, she married Harry Wesley Hofmeyer at Matlock. They farmed at Hospers
most of their married life. Mr. Hofmeyer passed away June 15, 1974, in Orange City. In 1976, Mrs. Hofmeyer moved into Hospers. In 1993, she became a resident of the Long Term Care Facility of the Orange City Municipal Hospital.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she had been involved in the
womens activities. Anna Jean enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Ronald and Faye Hofmeyer, of Orange City; three daughters, Mary Holstein, of Upland, California, Eleanor and her husband Roger of Kernerville, North Carolina; and Carol, and her husband, Adrian Van Zandbergen, of Orange City; and a daughter-in-law, Eunice Hofmeyer, of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by two sons, Gerald Hofmeyer and Kenneth Hofmeyer.
She is also survived by fifteen grandchildren, Kenneth's children, Theresa Keninger, Timothy
Hofmeyer, John Hofmeyer, and Paul Hofmeyer; Ronald's children, Jeff Hofmeyer, Renee Harrison, and Mike Hofmeyer; Mary's children, Chip Holstein and Kristy Claassen; Eleanor's children, Mike Care, Jonathan Care, Daniel Care, Rebekah Care, and Rachel Care; and Carol's daughter, Adri Vander Broek.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Ronald's son, David Hofmeyer, and Carol's daughter, Sarah Van Zandbergen.
Additional survivors include thirteen great grandchildren, and two half-sisters, Amy Sheldon,
of Elverson, Pennsylvania; and Phyllis Clemens, of Sioux Center. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Ver Steeg; a half-brother, Jim Teselle; and a half-sister, Muriel Graaf.
and two grandchildren.
