Vernon M. Van Ommeren, 78, passed away on Tuesday, July 3, 2007, at Fountain West Health Center. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, July 9, 2007, at New Hope Assembly of God, 6800 Townsend Ave., Urbandale, Iowa. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday at Brooks Funeral Care, 7975 University Blvd., Clive, Iowa 50325. Entombment will be in Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Vernon was born in Rock Valley, Iowa, and lived for many years in Boyden, Iowa. He moved to Des Moines in 1986, and had lived the last ten years in West Des Moines. He was the owner of Van Ommeren Construction. He was active in Gideon International and was a member of New Hope Assembly of God. He enjoyed camping, traveling, and being with his family.

He will be missed by his wife of 59 years, Marie; his daughter, Linda (Dave) Dinsdale of Des Moines and their children, Britt, Isaac, Signe and Jason Smith and Stephanie Maria (deceased July 1997); son, Virgil (Donna) Van Ommeren, of Blue Springs, Missouri. and their children, Heather and Howard Schrout and their daughter, Jessica; Jeremy and Katie Van Ommeren and their son, Lukas; son, Michael (Renee) Van Ommeren, Little Elm, Texas and their children, Justin, Aaron, Brandon, Anastacia and MacKenzie; brothers, Ivan (Dorothy) Van Ommeren and Roger (Charlene) Van Ommeren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Gertrude Van Ommeren; sister, Annetta and her husband, George Genant.
