MARTHA "MIKIE" VAN HOLLAND 84, died Thursday, December 29, at Sioux Valley Hospital. Funeral service was held Monday at First Reformed Church with burial at Valley View Cemetery.,

Martha Van Holland was born June 23, 1921 to Aart and Hermina (Van Galen) Van Holland near Rock Valley.

She attended Rock Valley Public School. She began working for Kempema Hatchery and Feed Store. In 1941, along with her twin sister, Alyce, she demonstrated her patriotism by moving to California to work in the Douglas Airplane Factory to support the war efforts.

Martha returned to Rock Valley in the fall of 1945 and resumed her bookkeeping career for B & H Hatchery and Feed Store until her retirement in 1988.

Martha is survived by 3 sisters: twin sister, Alyce (Raymond) Miedema of Rock Valley, Hermina Berghorst of Baltic, South Dakota and Johanna Van Bochove of Yankton, South Dakota; one brother, Moss (Evalena) Van Holland of Chino, California; sister-in-law, Jeanette Van Holland of Sioux Center, Iowa; three special nieces: Janice Sittig of Renner, South Dakota, Ardith Faye (Stephen) Sandstede of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Deanne (Carl) Kracht of Baltic, South Dakota and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers: Martin, John and Bert Van Holland; one sister, Winnie De Vries.
