Raymond Joseph Streff, 82, Slayton, Minnesota, formerly of Alton, died Tuesday, June 5, at Golden Living Center in Slayton.

Services were Monday, June 11, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Slayton, Minnesota, with the Reverend Patrick Arens officiating. Burial was at the church cemetery, under the direction of Totzke Funeral Home in Slayton, Minnesota.

Raymond Streff, son of Felix and Ann (Pottebaum) Streff, was born November 27, 1924 near Alton. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He enlisted in the U,S. Navy on October 24, 1944, and served as Seaman 1st Class in World War II. After discharge on July 1, 1946, he returned to Alton to farm with his family. He married Darlene Mousel on January 11, 1949, in Alton. They farmed near Le Mars until 1952, when they moved to a farm northwest of Slayton, Minnesota.

They farmed there until 1987, when they moved to Slayton, Minnesota. He was custodian at St. Ann’s Church in Slayton for several years. Mrs. Streff died February 2, 1997. He became a resident of Golden Living Center in December 14, 2006.He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus. He also was a member of Slayton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233 and was a past commander, and was a member of the Murray County Cattleman Association, the Hadley Elevator Board and the Murray County Shipping Association.

Survivors include five children, Donna and Loren Chambers of Aitkin, Minnesota, Paulette and Pat Taffe of Plymouth, Minnesota, Rex Streff of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Dean and Sue Streff of Slayton, Minnesota, and Mike and Lori Streff of Coon Rapids; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Stella Frederes of Le Mars and Charlene Sheitler of Le Mars.
