Born: November 4, 1923, Hull, Iowa
Died: November 27, 2002 Dell Rapids, South Dakota

Bernice was born Nov. 4, 1923 to parents, Gradus and Harriet (Spinden) Van Der Vliet at Hull, Iowa. She then attended country school and later attended Hull High School.

Bernice married Henry Vink on Oct. 10, 1946 at the home of her parents in Hull. After their marriage they farmed in the Hull area. In 1954 they moved to the Colton area and farmed there until 1982, when they moved into Colton. Bernice also worked at McCrossan Boys Ranch for several years as a cook and teachers aid. She and Hank were also sponsors of foreign exchange students in Colton.

She was a member of the First Reformed Church where she taught Sunday school and was past president of the First Reformed Women. She was also a member of the Colton American Legion Auxiliary and Colton Senir Citizens, where she had served as treasurer. She was a member of the Dakota Heritage Hand Corn Husking Association for over fifteen yeaers.

Bernice enjoyed bowling in the Dell Rapids League and playing cards with her friends and family. She truly enjoyed her grandchildren.

Bernice died Wed. Nov. 27, 2002 at the Dells Area Nursing Home after a courageous battle with cancer.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Henry, Colton; her children and their spouses, Howard and Ranae Vink, Colton; Harriet and Lowell De Vries, Chester; Bonnie and Ivan Van Duyn, Kalamazoo, MI; Betty and Warren Oberg, Colton; Barb and Dennis Christensen, Crooks; Julie and Jeff Sarver, Oostberg, Wis; seventeen grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Herman Van Der Vlieit, Hull, IA; Henry John Van Der Vliet, La Harbra, CA; two sisters, Henrietta Meendering, Martinsdale, IA; Annetta TerMaat, Firth, NE; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Harold, a granddaughter, two sisters, and a brother.
