Died: July 8, 2010 Sioux Falls, South Dakota

Henry "Hank" Vink, 85, of Colton, died Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Covington Heights Care Center in Sioux Falls.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM Monday, July 12, 2010 at First Reformed Church in Colton. Burial will be in the Colton Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5-7:00 PM Sunday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Colton.

Henry was born September 29, 1924 at Belgrade, Minnesota to parents Gerrit and Anna (TeBrink)Vink. As a teenager he moved with his family to Hull, Iowa. In 1945 he entered the United States Army and served during World War II until his honorable discharge in 1946. On October 10, 1946, he married Bernice Van Der Vliet at the home of her parents in Hull. They farmed near Hull until moving to a farm near Colton in 1954. They retired from farming and moved into Colton in 1982. Hank also operated a trucking business for over 50 years, and worked for Hank Van Whye, Jim DeKrey at Surge and for Colton Redi-Mix. Bernice died November 27, 2002.

Hank enjoyed bowling, fishing and playing the accordion. But he truly enjoyed entertaining his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also helped and rode with the McCrossan Boys Ranch Wagon Train for the South Dakota Centennial and the Texas Quasquicentennial. Hank was a active member of First Reformed Church and a 63 year member of the American Legion.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children and their spouses, Howard and Ranae Vink, Colton; Harriet and Lowell De Vries, Chester; Bonnie and Ivan Van Duyn, Kalamazoo, MI; Betty and Warren Oberg, Colton; Barb and Dennis Christensen, Crooks; Julie and Jeff Sarver, Oostberg, WI; seventeen grandchildren; two step grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren with one on the way; three sisters, Marian Verburg, Rock Valley, Iowa; Anna Scholten, Grand Rapids, MI; Bernice Reuvers, Marshall, MN; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice on November 27, 2002, a son, Harold; a granddaughter; three brothers, Delmar, George, and Albert and two sisters, Alice Norman and Nettie Van Leeuwen.
