Mildred “Millie” Merley, 88, Sheldon, Died Tuesday, March 6, at Northwest Iowa Health Center Senior Care in Sheldon.

Services were Friday, March 9, at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, with the Reverend Marvin Lindley officiating. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Mildred Merley, daughter of Peter and Bertha (Van Den Berg) De Graaf, was born December 23, 1918, in Newkirk High School.

She married John Rockford Merley on December 23, 1938, in Newkirk. They farmed in the Hartley and Archer area for several years. They moved into Sheldon in February 1962. She was employed as a nurse’s aide at Sheldon Nursing Home for 13 years. Mr. Merley died May 8, 2006.

She was a member of United Methodist Church in Sheldon. Her family was very important to her.

Survivors include a son, Don and Barb Merley of Sheldon; a daughter, Vicki Merley of Sheldon; daughter-in-law, Sharon Merley of Sheldon; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Gertrude Merley of Sheldon, Bonnie Merley of Sheldon, and Olivia De Graff of Orange City.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Rockford Merley; two sons, Billy Dean Merley and Paul Merley; and six brothers and sisters.
