Paul Wayne Merley, 64, Sheldon, died Friday, January 12, at Northwest Iowa Health Center in Sheldon.

Services were Monday, January 15, at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, with the Reverend Marvin Lindley officiating. Burial was at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon.

Paul Merley, son of John Rockford and Mildred (De Graaf) Merley, was born July 5, 1942, in Orange City. He received his education in a country school near Archer Consolidated Community School. He married Sharon Kaye Cabalka on December 13, 1971, in Hartley. He worked for many years for Bob Merley Jr. Excavation. He also drove truck for Russell Ready Mix.

He was a past member of First Reformed Church in Archer. He enjoyed being around heavy Equipment and especially enjoyed his tour of the Caterpillar Manufacturing Plant.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Merley of Sheldon, a son, Neil Merley of Sheldon; two daughters, Paula and Thad Schoneman of Ashton and Melissa Woelber of Sanborn; eight grandchildren; a step grandson; three stepchildren, Cora Merrit, Tina Merrit and Billy Merit; his mother, Mildred “Millie” Merley of Sheldon; a brother, Don and Barb Merley of Sheldon; and a sister, Vicki Merley of Sheldon.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Rockford Merley; and a brother, Billy Dean Merley.
