Emma Middelkoop, 90, at Rock Valley, died Saturday, September 29, at Valley Manor Nursing Home in Rock Valley.

Services were Wednesday, October 3, at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley. Burial was Thursday, October 4, at Valley View Cemetery in Rock Valley.

Emma Middelkoop, daughter of Charles and Anna (De Jong) Siegersma, was born March 2, 1917, in Carnes. The Siegersma family moved to Pease, Minnesota, where she went through the eighth grade at Pease Christian School. She spent several years working at the Corner Grocery Store in Ireton and helped families caring for their young children.

She married Adrain Middelkoop on June 17, 1946, in Pease, Minnesota. They lived on a farm near Baldwin, Wisconsin. She worked at A&W, Hemness Grocery Store and Boldt & Gregerson Hardware and cleaned homes in Baldwin.

They moved in 1968 to Rock Valley, where she worked at Hope Haven for 18 years. They were foster parents to more than 20 children and served as foster grandparents.

She shared janitor duties at the Christian Reformed Church with her husband, taught Sunday School and was active in Ladies Aid. In the community, she taught sewing as a 4-H leader and belonged to a Homemakers Club.

Survivors include her husband, Adrain Middelkoop of Rock Valley; two daughters, Beth and Gar Jasper of Prinsburg, Minnesota, and Julie Middelkoop of Hammond, Wisconsin; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a young son, Daniel Middelkoop; six sisters, Henrietta Van Someren, Freda Moorlag, Rena De Jager, Susie Christenson, Agnes Siegersma and Winnie Siegersma; and four brothers, George Siegersma, Ted Siegersma, Pete Siegersma and Charlie
