Lloyd B. Lawrence, 88, rural Ireton, died Friday, April 20, at Winslow House Care Center in Marion.

Services were Wednesday, April 25, at Porter Funeral Home in Ireton, with Dennis Hultgren, chaplain of Albert E. Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron, officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Ireton, with military rites by the Akron American Legion and arrangements by Porter Funeral Home in Ireton.

Lloyd Lawrence, son of Carl and Dora (Talbot) Lawrence, was born December 20, 1918, in Milnerville. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was with the 154th Armored Signal Company and served overseas in battles and campaigns in Sicily, Naples, Rome, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe, being discharged September 28, 1945. He married Darlene Jammerthal on January 9, 1946, in Elk Point, South Dakota. They lived in Elk Point until moving southwest of Ireton in 1952. He worked for McNally Farms for 45 years. Mrs. Lawrence died February 6, 1983.

He was a lifelong member of the Albert E. Hoschler American Legion Post 186 in Akron, and was a past commander.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Darlene Lawrence of Central City; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ileen Richters of Mountain Home, Arizona.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene Lawrence; a daughter, Marcia Brunken; and three brothers, Doug Lawrence, James Lawrence and Leonard Lawrence.
