Glenice Faye Lamkin, , 79, Vancouver, Washington, formerly of the Sheldon area, died Saturday, April 14.

Services were Wednesday , April 18, at First United Methodist Church in Vancouver, Washington. Burial was at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Vancouver, under the direction of Evergreen Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel.

Glenice (Vander Velde) Lamkin was born November 29, 1927, in Hospers. She grew up working on the family farm, graduated from high school in Sanborn and earned her teaching certificate at Morningside College in Sioux City. After teaching elementary school for several years and becoming a school principal in Iowa, she married Wayne F. Lamkin of Sheldon in 1952. They farmed together until 1960, when they moved their two children and their worldly possessions to Vancouver, Washington. They spent many hours remodeling their home and she was quite an artist when it came to interior design and finishing woodwork. Her home is a showcase to her talents.

She was involved at First United Methodist Church and enjoyed singing in the choir and spending her time helping others by remaining busy with a variety of committees and women’s groups. Her care for others also led her to volunteer many hours serving food at the Share House.

Survivors include a son, Jeffrey and Grace Lamkin of Vancouver, Washington; a daughter, Jerilyn and Michael Scheller of Tampa, Florida; a sister, Eunice Kroese of Sanborn; and sister-in-law, Katy Vander Velde of Sanborn. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne F. Lamkin; and a brother, Kenneth Vander Velde.

Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church in Vancouver, Washington, or to the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver.
