Marylyn Helen Monfore-Haufschild, 63, Sioux Center died Wednesday, April 11, at Orange City Area Health System.

Services were Saturday, April 14, at Christ the King Catholic Church in Sioux Center, with Father Douglas Klein officiating. Burial was at Lakeview Cemetery in Lake Andes, South Dakota, under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center.

Marylyn Monfore-Haufschild, daughter of Frank and Helen (Haki) Novotny, was born August 25, 1943, in Wagner, South Dakota. She grew up on the family farm northeast of Lake Andes, South Dakota. She attended country school and Lake Andes High School. She continued her formal education at Southern State College in Springfield, South Dakota, graduating with a bachelor degree in business and music. She married Gene Monfore in 1964. They resided in Mobridge, South Dakota, before moving to St. Paul, Minnesota, where she taught at St. Bernard’s School 1968-73. They returned to Mobridge, South Dakota, in 1973, where she was a substitute teacher before going to work at Montana Dakota Utilities in the accounting department. She retired from MDU in 1992.

She married William Haufschild in 1986. They lived for a time in Mobridge, and later in Tucson, Arizona and Bellevue, Nebraska. They moved in 2001 to Sioux Center, where she lived until losing her courageous battle with cancer.

Her passion was music, family, friends and her faith in God. She gave piano lessons throughout her life. It was not unusual to have 18-20 piano students on a regular basis.

She had a knack for making friends with people from all walks of life. She had several friendships, which she cherished deeply, especially in these last few months.

Survivors include her husband, William Haufschild of Sioux Center; two sons, Michael and Ann Monfore of York, Nebraska, and Mark and Beverly Monfore of Eagle River, Arkansas; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, Dawn Hurney of Pierre, South Dakota,, Chad Haufschild of Lincoln, Nebraska, and Darci Nelson of Emmett, Idaho; seven step-grandchildren:; a brother, Tom and Marilyn Novotny of Hill City, South Dakota; and two nieces, Rita Tyra and family; and Kristan Novotny.
