John C. Hofland of Sanborn died Saturday, July 15, 1995 at Prairie View Home in Sanborn. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, July 19 at the Sanborn Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Gary Hofland officiated. Burial was in West Lawn Cemetery, Orange City, under the direction of the Sanborn Funeral Home.

John was born on May 12, 1904 near Orange City, the son of Jacobus and Grietje (Bonnes) Hofland. He lived his youth and received his education in the Orange City area.

John was united in marriage to Lena Kraayenbrink on Feb. 14, 1928 at Orange City. They came to the Sanborn area in 1928 where he was engaged in farming. She died on Nov. 17, 1941.

John married Cornelia Kleyn on Jan. 9, 1945 at Rock Valley. He retired from his vocation in 1975. Cornelia died on Sept. 6, 1980. He entered Prairie View Home in Sanborn on Sept. 30, 1994.

He was a member of the Cornerstone Orthodox Reformed Church of Sanborn.

John is survived by his children: Jim and Joanne Hofland of Hartley, Alyda and Dwaine Muilenburg of Sioux Center, Henry and Juleen Hofland of Sanborn, Gary and Ellen Hofland of Salt Lake City, Utah, Verna and Kenneth Zevenbergen of Ocheyedan, John and Joyce Hofland of Sioux Center, and Arlyn and Glenda Hofland of Sioux City; 24 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two brothers, James and Elmer, both of Orange City; and four sisters, Angeline Horstman of Rock Valley, Catherine Schuiteman of Sioux Center, Gertrude Jacobs of Orange City, and Elsina Bos of Melvin.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives; one daughter, Gertrude; one brother, Joe (Cornie) Hofland; and one sister, Henrietta Mars
