From the Rock Valley Bee, April 20, 1906:

Coroner Huizenga was called to a place near Ireton Monday on account of the accidental killing of Johannes Handal on the farm of Bruce Houlton. The young man came from Norway about a year ago and worked in the pineries all winter. He was engaged in field work at the time of his death. The team ran away with him, in the which his neck was broken.

From the Sioux Center Nieuwsblad, April 18, 1906:

We ontvingen bericht dat Maandagavond nabij Ireton zekere Johan Handel, werkzaam voor een farmer genaamd Houlton, gedood werd bij het op hol gaan van een span paarden. Hij was bezig de paarden te ontspannen, toen de dieren op hol sloegen. Een der "straps" sloeg hem om den hals, zoodat zijn nek gebroken werd. Coroner Huizenga van Rock Valley werd ontboden, doch kon slechts den dood constateeren.

Translation:
We received word that Monday evening near Ireton a certain Johan Handel, working for a farmer named Houlton, was killed in a runaway of a team of horses. He was working to get the horses to relax, when the animals stampeded. One of the "straps" hit him round the neck, so that his neck was broken. Coroner Huizenga of Rock Valley was summoned, but could only take note of the death.

From the Sioux County Herald (Orange City), April 25, 1906:

John Handal, a young Norwegian eighteen years old, was driving a four horse team on the C. B. Moulton farm just north of Ireton last Monday, when he lost control of the horses, became entangled in the lines and was killed in the runaway.
