Gertrude Ruyter, 81, Mason City, formerly of Boyden, died Monday, March 28, at Hospice of North Iowa.

Services were Thursday, March 31, at the Demco Community Center in Boyden, with Jeff Thayer and Doreen Beyer officiating. Burial was at Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden, under the direction of Sheldon Funeral Home.

Gertrude Ruyter, daughter of Walter and Kathryn (Woudsma) Ruyter, was born June 6, 1923, in Litchville, North Dakota.

She lived her youth in Boyden, where she attended school and graduated from high school. She served as an evangelical missionary in the United States and overseas for 30 years. She returned to the states and worked for the State of Iowa until retiring in 1989. She lived in Ankeny and Colfax before moving to her home in Mason City. She enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include a sister, Jane Ingebritson of Hampton; and two sisters-in-law, Maxine Ruyter of Sheldon and Dorothy Ruyter of Mankato, Minnesota.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry Ruyter, Herman Ruyter and Albert Ruyter.
