Norbert M. “Nubs” Hansen, 76, Alton, died Friday, July 12, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City following a brief illness.

Nubs Hansen, son of Michael and Lucy (Staab) Hansen, was born January 3, 1926, in rural Alton. He was raised in the Alton area and received his education at St. Mary’s Academy in Alton, graduating in 1946. He served in the U.S. Army Occupational services in Japan May 1946-October 1947. He then returned to Alton and farmed with his father. He married Marcella Nilles on August 21, 1950, in Remsen. They made their home near Alton where they farmed until moving into Alton in 1988. He had worked for Vogel Paint in Orange City and for the State of Iowa and currently was employed by the Sioux Golf & Country Club in Alton. Mrs. Hansen died May 3, 2002.

Services were Monday, July 15, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, with Father James Tigges officiating. Burial with graveside military rites was at the church cemetery, under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen.

Survivors include two daughters, Sandi and Jeff Reed of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Peggy and John Flucke of Overland Park, Kansas; five sons, Ken and Diane Hansen of Smithville, Missouri, Duane and Lori Hansen of Granville, Ric and Janet Hansen of Alton, Randy and Denise Hansen of Kansas City, Missouri, and Russ and Michele Hansen of Marcus; 16 grandchildren; and two sisters, Florentine Pickett of North Liberty, and Rena and Francis Burns of Las Vegas.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, Floyd Post 200 American Legion of Alton and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5347 in Granville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marcella; a son-in-law, David Westmoreland; two sisters, Gertrude Recker and Valeria O’Connell; and three brothers, Robert Hansen, Francis Hansen and Michael Hansen.
