Nestor Jay Schenk, 48, of Sioux Center, died Wednesday, June 26, at the Rock Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness.

Services were 1:30 P.M. Monday at Central Reformed Church in Sioux Center, with the Rev. Dennis Wilcox officiating. Burial was in the Carmel Cemetery. Visitation was from 8 A.M. to 10 P.M., with the family present from 4 P.M. to 6 P.M., Sunday at the Memorial Funeral Home in Sioux Center. Schenk was born June 21, 1943, in rural Sioux Center, son of Henry and Helen (Den Hartog) Schenk. He grew up there and graduated from Sioux Center High School. He married Donna Jean Hoops Menke of Alta on August 13, 1986, in Hawarden. They lived in Sioux Center. He worked many years for AMPI.

He was a member of the Central Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon. He was associated with the National Street Rod Association, the Midnight Oil Street Rodders, and was an official at the circle track races and demolition Derbies. He had a dog brokerage business and operated the Schenk Speed Shop and various automotive events.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Jean; his mother Helen of Sioux Center; three sons, Ross of Sioux Center, Grant of Spencer and Derek, stationed with the Army in Germany; a daughter and a stepdaughter, Teresa Schenk of Anniston, Alabama, and Holly Vander Plas, stationed with the Air Force in Homestead, Florida; three grandchildren, Myckell, Joshua and Aric; a brother and sister-in-law, Dennis and Kathy of Sioux Center; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Christina and Severt Vander Esch of Hawarden and Beverly and David Berquist of Sacramento, California.

He was preceded in death by his father and both maternal and paternal grandparents.
