John J. Kuiper
John Junior Kuiper, 69, of Hospers, died Friday, April 7, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. A memorial service was Tuesday, April 11, at 2:30 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church in Hospers with the Rev. Duane Tinklenberg officiating. Interment was at the Hospers Cemetery.

Kuiper was born November 5, 1936, at Alvord, the son of Henry John and Clazena (Vander Meulen) Kuiper. He was raised at Alvord and Maurice and graduated from the Sioux Center Christian School.

At the age of 16, he moved to Newkirk. He served two years in the United States Navy. On March 25, 1958, he married Janice Rea Roetman in Newkirk. They made their home at Hospers. In earlier years, he was employed as a feed salesman and in a grain elevator. From 1966 to 1993, the couple operated their own beekeeping business. He then assisted his brother-in-law at De Jong Plumbing in Orange City for 10 years. For the last several years, he also worked at the Tri-State Livestock Auction in Sioux Center.

He was a member of Hospers Christian Reformed Church, where he served as an elder. He was also a member of the board of trustees of the Hospers Christian School, and he currently served as an instructor at the Crossroad Bible Institute. He enjoyed camping, playing cards and horseshoes, golfing and bowling. Healso liked to go on mission service projects, and he loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years; two sons and their wives, Greg and Margaret Kuiper of Luverne, Minnesota, and Dan and Kathy Kuiper of Tempe, Arizona; a daughter and her husband, Laura and Gary Malenke of Orange City; ten grandchildren; and a sister and her husband, Delores and Marvin Dejong of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Winifred and Eugene Haarsma. Memorials may be directed to the Crossroad Bible Institute, which provides Bible instruction to inmates.
