Sioux Center News, July 16, 1942

J. L. Cogswell of Rock Valley passed away last Friday in an Orange City hospital following a brief illness, which was diagnosed as "sleeping-sickness". He had been suffering severe headaches for about six weeks.

Jesse Leo Cogswell was born two miles north of Rock Valley on March 12, 1894, and departed from this life at the Doornink hospital in Orange City on Friday, July 10, 1942. He was the fourth son of Jesse & Lydia Cogswell early residents of Sioux County.

He attended the grade and high school in Rock Valley. He has made his home near Rock Valley except one year spent in California. He was married to Miss Mina Van Wyhe, Sept. 7, 1918 and to this union were born two children. He was a veteran of the World War and a member of the American Legion. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Mina, two children, Earl Clifford and Ada Belle, of Rock Valley, his mother Mrs. Lydia Cogswell of Los Angeles, Merrit and Sumner of Los Angeles, CA, and Erwin of Santa Ana, CA.

Funeral services were held at the home at 1:30 and 2:00 at the Methodist Church conducted by Rev. L. A. Rachuy and interment in the burial plot.
