Gerbin Kroeze, 73 passed away Saturday, April 8 after suffering for about 3 months with tumor on the kidney and dropsy.

Mr. Kroeze was born on Feb. 5, 1871 at Oosterbierum Friesland, the Netherlands and came to America to Sioux county in 1887. In the year 1893 he was married to Miss letje De Jager of Orange City. The couple began housekeeping on a farm west of Orange City. Ten children were born to them, 3 of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Kroeze passed away on March 31, 1908.

Surviving children of this union are: John Kroeze of Middleburg, Harry Kroeze of Orange City; Grace, Mrs. Jake Wielenga of Orange City, Jessie, Mrs. Herbert W. Huisman of Hospers, Nell, Mrs. Dick Van Gelder of Orange City; Rena, Mrs. Andrew Huisman of Orange City and Peter Kroeze of Orange City.

On Oct. 1, 1914 Mr. Kroeze married Miss Elizabeth Siebersma of Orange City and continued as farmer in the Orange City community most of these years. A few years were spent near Sioux Center where the deceased served as elder in the Sec. Chr. Ref. church. They retired from the farm 12 years ago, moving to Orange City.

Surviving Mr. Kroeze are his wife and children: Lucy, Mrs. Peter Jeltema of Lake Odessa, Mich.; Wilma, Mrs. Marinus Fedders of Orange City; Gertrude, Mrs. Alton Vink of Orange City; children at, home are Stephen, Mathilda, Jennie and Elizabeth. Gt. Kroeze is stationed at Camp Fannin, Texas. There are 37 grandchildren.

Two brothers and 2 sisters also survive: Isaac Kroeze of Sanborn, John Kroeze of Sheldon, Mrs. R. Donkersloot of Sheldon and Mrs. Bert Schelhaas of Edgerton, Minn.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at home and at the First Chr. Ref. church with the Rev. R. Bronkema officiating. Interment was made in the local cemetery.

Pvt. Gt. Kroeze arrived Monday from Camp Fannin, Tex. to attend the funeral of his father, Gerbin Kroeze.
