Sioux County Capital May 17, 1951

Mrs. J. Van Oort Dies Mrs. Minnie Van Oort, Nee Ravenstein, (aks Ravestein or Ravestyn) was born in the Netherlands April 30, 1868. At the age of four she came to America with her parents and settled near South Holland, IL.

When she was 18 she came to Sioux County with her parents. She was united in manage to Jacob Van Oort on March 15, 1889. They lived on a farm in the Newkirk vicinity until 1923 when the family moved to Orange City. She lived here until her death Friday, May 11 at 4:30 a: m. after a brief illness. She was 83. Her husband, Jacob Van Oort died February 8, 1926 and one daughter, Reka, Mrs. Ed Fikse, also preceded her in death.

Surviving are two sons and three daughters, John, Effie, Peter, Coba (Mrs. Nick Wielenga and Jennie (Mrs. Adrian Vander Wilt). There are also 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Peter Ravenstein and Mrs. Wein Van Oort. She was the last of a family of eight children. Mrs. Van Oort was a member of the First Reformed church of Orange City.

Funeral services were held Monday in the First Reformed church with Rev. E. Van Engelenhoven and Rev. Roetman officiating. Burial was in the Orange City cemetery with Van Etten in charge of arrangements.
