Died: November 13, 2008 Sioux Falls, South Dakota
Dewey Dykstra, 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Avera/McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, SD after a courageous and hard battle with cancer. A Celebration of Life will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday at First Reformed Church, Rock Valley. Burial will be at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Rev. Mike Van Hamersveld and Rev. Gideon Wamala will officiate.

Dewey Charles Dykstra was born October 23, 1931 in Rock Valley, IA, the son of Charles and Gertrude (De Haan) Dykstra. He graduated from Rock Valley High School. On November 19, 1951, Dewey was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Adriana Van Driel in Rock Valley. Dewey lived in Rock Valley all his life except for two years when he served his country in the United States Army from 1953 – 1955 during the Korean War. Dewey worked for Community Oil Company, Rock Valley for forty-six and a half years. After retiring, Dewey worked at A & I Products for eleven years until he could no longer work due to cancer. As a member of First Reformed Church, Dewey served on the Consistory for several years. Dewey enjoyed his neighbors, friends and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren with all their activities. He helped his kids with countless "home improvement" projects. Dewey was a kind and loving husband, father and grandfather. He lived for his family and friends and would do anything he could to help them. He was selfless in everything he did. Dewey will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Dewey is survived by his wife of almost 57 years, Adriana; 4 children: Marla (Rick) Stoops and their son Matthew of Sioux Falls, SD, Duane (Terri) Dykstra and their daughter Sarah, Brad (Jackie) Dykstra and their children, Travis and Brittany, Todd (Monica) Dykstra and their children Jordan, Erica and Zachary all of Rock Valley, IA; one sister, Irene (Henry) Dokter of Sioux Center, IA; one brother-in-law, Peter J. (Viola) Van Driel of Rock Valley; 2 sisters-in-law: Janie Dykstra of Pond Creek, OK and Lillian Draayer of Rock Valley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughters, Cheryl Joan and Carol Joyce Dykstra; sisters: Hattie Dykstra and her husband Henry, Micky Groen and her husband Peter and Tina Huisman and her husband Wilbur; brother, Norman Dykstra; brother-in-law, Ed Draayer.
