Mrs. Anna Poppe died at the home of her daughter Mr. H. L. Vander Hamm southeast of Ireton Sunday October Twenty seventh from the infirmities of old age, she having been born eighty two years ago. Germany was the land of her nativity and from there she came to the United States in 1874 and has lived in Sioux County since 1898. Deceased had been married three times and ll her partners in the hoys and sorrows of life have preceded her to the grave.

In 1851 she was married at Bockhorn Germany to Christopher Toenjes and to them five children were born all of whom are still alive. He died in 1866 and in 1868 Mrs. Townjes became Mrs. Assern. One child was born to them but died in infancy. Mr. Assern died in 1871 and in 1876 Mrs. Assern married Dietrich Poppe. His death occurred in 1897.

Besides the five children Mrs. Poppe leaves thirty four grandchildren and ten great grand children, also three sisters. The five children are three sons and two daughters, the oldest of the daughters still residing in Germany. Funeral services were held Wednesday of last week from St. John’s Lutheran Church east of Ireton

(From several sources found Anna’s maiden name as Julfs, or Jaulfs, or Juffs or Geulfs. She was born 13 Oct 1825 and died 27 Oct 1907 buried in St. John’s cemetery rural Ireton. Children - Dietrich, Herman , Elizabeth, Johann a and John Toenjes )
