Mr. Gerald Fedders, age 73, of Battle Creek, formerly of Alton, passed away on Saturday, June 18, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, June 21, at 2:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev. C. Orville Kool will officiate. Interment will follow at the Nassau Township Cemetery, near Alton. Visitation with the family present will be the hour before the service.

Gerald Alvin was born on March 25, 1932, in Orange City, the son of John and Nettie (Vink) Fedders. He was raised at Orange City.

At the age of nine, he became a resident of the Glenwood State Hospital. Later, he moved to the Hillcrest Health Care Service in Hawarden, and then he returned to Glenwood. In 1988, he moved to Battle Creek, where he lived in a group home. For the past several years, he has resided at the Willow Dale Wellness Center in Battle Creek.

For many years, Mr. Fedders was employed by the Ida Sheltered Industries, where he sorted recycling and packaged small parts.

He enjoyed music and liked to sing the songs he learned as a child. The staff at Willow Dale said he was a joy to be around. They will miss him greatly.

Gerald was a baptized member of the Alton Reformed Church.

Survivors include three sisters, Nettie Mellema and Marie Maassen, both of Orange City; and Johanna De Haan, of Hudsonville, Michigan; and several nephews and nieces.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Dick Fedders, and a sister, Bernice Pruis.

Memorials will be directed to the Alton Reformed Church.
