Harriet "Tuts" Fedders, age 89, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility. Funeral service was Monday at 10 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Dr. Perry De Groot and the Rev. Edward Suffern officiated. Interment was at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City.

Mrs. Fedders was born March 31, 1919, at Sioux Center, the daughter of Martin and Jenny (Punt) Vander Meer. She was raised on a farm near Sioux Center, where she attended a country school. Growing up in, she worked at a bakery and at Boeyink Grocery in Sioux Center. On January 3, 1949, she married Gcrrit Fedders, Jr. in Sioux Center.

They made their home in Orange City, where she was a homemaker. He died October 10, 1965, in Orange City. She then assisted in the kitchens of the Maurice-Orange City elementary and high schools for 27 years. On her 88th birthday, she moved to the Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community in Orange City, and on June 13, 2007, she transferred to the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility.

She was a member of First Reformed Church. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. She also liked watching her son, Verlyn, play fast-pitch ball for 30 years.

Survivors include her two sons and their wives, Verlyn and Melinda (Kraai) Fedders of Orange City and Bruce and Lori (Budden) Fedders of Sioux Center; three grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a half-sister and her husband, Linda and Norman Van Otterloo of Orange City; a stepbrother and his wife, Edward and Nellie Riepma of Sheldon; two stepsisters, Ramona Wiersema of Orange City and Marylou and her husband Arie Noteboom, Jr. of Alton; a half-sister-in-law and her husband, Harriet and Bill Bader of Cedar Falls; and a stepsister-in-law and her husband, Annetta and Dick Mulder of Sioux Center.

She was also preceded in death by a half-brother, Marvin Vander Meer; a stepbrother, Bernard Riepma; and a stepbrother-in-law, Marvin Wiersema.
