Died: July 14, 2012 Sioux Center, Iowa

William P. Van Der Weide, 88 of Sioux Center died Sat. July 14, at the Royale Meadows Care Center of Sioux Center.

A memorial service was 2 p.m. Tues. at the Memorial Funeral Home of Sioux Center. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Van Der Weide was born Sept. 16, 1923 on a farm southeast of Sioux Center to Peter and Hattie (Harskamp) Van Der Weide. He was raised in Sioux Center and attended Welcome # 9 country school through the eighth grade. On Nov. 1, 1948, he married Mildred Louise Donovan at the Netherlands Reformed Church parsonage in Rock Valley. He drove a tank wagon for Coop Gas & Oil of Sioux Center for 18 years before moving to the family farm where he and Millie lived and worked for 21 years. In 1986, the couple moved to Sioux Center.

He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his perfectly timed "one liners".

Survivors are his wife, Millie, of Sioux Center; six children, Larry and Deb Van Der Weide of Sioux Center, Joyce and Larry Olson of Columbia MO., Ron and Cherie Van Der Weide of Grant Pass, OR., Arlin Van Der Weide of Sioux Center, Paul and Laurie Van Der Weide of Sioux Center, David and Jeannie Van Der Weide of Watertown, S.D. 30 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three brothers, Harold and Rose Van Der Weide of Orange City, Eddie and Ramona Van Der Weide of Sioux Center and Gene and Karen Van Der Weide of Sioux City; one sister, Alyda Olivier of Sioux Center; two sisters-in-law Hildred Vander Weide of Sioux Center and Henrietta Van Der Weide of Orange City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by an infant son, Samuel; son and daughter-in-law, Les and Marjorie Van Der Weide; sister, Dilly Van Der Weide; and five brothers, John and his wife Elizabeth, Henry , Kenneth, Tony, and Marvin Van Der Weide.
