Mr. Wein Vander Zwaag, age 89, of Orange City, passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at the Orange City Area Health System Long Term Care Facility. There will be a funeral service on Monday, August 18, at 1:30pm, at the Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg. The Rev. Stephen Breen will officiate. Interment will follow at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. Visitation will be after 2:30pm on Sunday, with the family present from 2:30-4:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Wein Adrian was born on November 7, 1918, in rural Orange City, the son of Ben and Kate (Van Oort) Vander Zwaag. He was raised in rural Orange City, where he attended a country school.

On November 15, 1940, he married Alvina Viola Beimers in Orange City. They farmed in the Middleburg area. She passed away on August 17, 1998, in Sioux City.

Mr. Vander Zwaag continued to live on his farm until 2002, when he moved to the Sioux Center Community Nursing Home. In 2003, he returned to his house on the farm, where he received assistance from Homemaker Health Care. Since 2004, he has resided at the Long Term Care Facility.
He was a lifelong member of the Free Grace Reformed Church. He thoroughly enjoyed farming and liked to go fishing.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Audrey and Delbert Wiersma, of Spirit Lake; nine grandchildren, Denice De Goei, La-roy Wiersma, John Wayne Wiersma, Andrea Grossmann, Carma Louwerse, Corwyn Vander Veen, Craig Vander Veen, Chris Vander Veen, and Cathy Kooiker; and 21 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter and her husband, Karen and Clarence Vander Veen; an infant daughter, Linda; a stillborn son, Wayne; a great-granddaughter, April Louwerse; and a brother, Henry B. Vander Zwaag.

Memorials may be directed to the church.
