Funeral service was Monday at 10:30 a.m. at Central Reformed Church with the Rev. R. Van Rathbun officiating. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery of Sioux Center.

Van Den Berg was born August 27, 1918 to William G. and Ann (Juffer) Van Den Berg in Rock Valley. He was raised in the Sioux Center area. In 1940 he joined the Iowa National Guard, Company K 133rd Infantry 34th Red Bull Division. He was activated by the U.S. Army in 1942, where he served as a Bugler and Company Clerk. He spent 3 1/2 years overseas during World War II, serving a total of 5 1/2 years. He married Henrietta "June" Boone on Feb. 2, 1945, in Sioux Center while on furlough. Following his honorable discharge he worked at Vander Ploeg Funeral Home. He started his business, the Furniture Mart, in 1949. He managed his furniture store until 1981 where he semi-retired, but continued to "putz" at the store for the next 24 years.

The couple wintered in Texas for 26 years. While there he did volunteer work at the orphanage at Renosa, and appreciated spending time with his friends. His first love was his family; he was a loving husband for 63 years and deeply loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had a passion for golf, fishing, and camping, and was a great storyteller. He had a loving relationship with his Lord and Savior, and was a member of Central Reformed Church where he served as elder, deacon and Sunday School superintendent.

Survivors are his loving wife, June: his six children, Denny and Carol Van Den Berg, Ron and LuAnn Van Den Berg, Brenda and Gilly De Goei, Julie and Gerry Franken, Mary and Doug Van Der Stoep, all of Sioux Center, and Pam and Dave Korver of Maurice; 22 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Clarence Van Den Berg of Doon; brother and sister-in-law, Alvin "Knobby" and Ruth Van Den Berg of Ireton; sister-in-law Mary Van Den Berg of Rock Valley; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Joan and Paul Den Hartog of Orange City, Lillian and Norm Hogan of Artesia, CA., Carol and Ray Sneller of Parker, S.D., Ruth Boone of Sioux Center, Marv and Donna Boone of Sioux Center, Audrey and Elmer Gesink of Orange City, Karen and Irv De Boer of Sioux Center, Judy and Ivan Friese of Parker, S.D., Ruth and Gib Meyer of Sioux Center, and Ray and Hazel Boone of Jacksonville, TX.

The Van Den Berg family prefers memorials be directed to CHEARS Home Health and Hospice or Central Reformed Church.
