Kirk Jon Van Engen, 25, of Sioux Center died Friday, July 16 near Salem, S.D.

Services were at 10 a.m. Monday July 19 at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center with the Rev. Tom Soerens officiating. Burial was in Richland Cemetery at Inwood.

Van Engen was born to Allen and Judy (Boer) Van Engen on Jan. 18, 1974 in Sheldon. He graduated from Western Christian High School in 1992. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps four years. He served in the military police, attaining the rank of corporal. He married Maria Chavez on August 13, 1994, in Inwood. He was currently majoring in mechanical engineering at Dordt College and working at Vande Berg Scales.

He was a member of Bethel Christian Reformed Church, where he taught catechism. He and his wife were involved with the Amistad Christiana ministry in Sioux Center.

Survivors include his wife; son, Michael; daughter Nikole; parents of Inwood; three brothers, Kris, Nicolas, and Patrick; grandparents Harriet Van Engen of Doon and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Boer of Sanborn; great grandmothers, Minnie Van Werven of Sanborn and Ethel Boer of Sheldon; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, Jon and an infant daughter, Leah.
