Born: September 17, 1913 rural Orange City, Iowa
Died: February 5, 2000 Sioux Center, Iowa

Elmver Van De Brake, 86, of Sioux Center died Sat. Feb.5 at Sioux Center Community Nursing Home.

Services were at 1:30 p.m. Wed. at Calvary Christian Reformed Church in Orange City with Pastor Jack Gray officiating. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery.

Vande Brake was born Sept. 17,1913, in rural Orange City son of Gerrit and Agnes (Mulder) Van De Brake. His family lived n several locations in Northwest Iowa. He attended Sioux Center Christian School, Western Christian High School in Hull. and Le Mars High School from which he graduated. As a young adult he worked at the Carnes Store. He married Lucille Siebersma at Carnes on Sept. 2, 1938. They made their home in Orange City, where he was employed by Vogel Paint Company. For 28 years, he was part owner of the Vogel and Van De Brake Paint Store in Orange City. He also worked at De Vries Interiors in Orange City for many years. The couple moved to Sioux Center in 1994 and became residents of Franken Manor. He transferred to the Sioux Center Community Nursing Home in June 1998.

He was a member of Calvary Christian Reformed Church, where he sang in the choir. He had served on the consistory of a Christian Reformed Church and he worked with the Midwest Evangelism League for 12 years.

He loved life, especially spending time with members of his family. He enjoyed nature and particularly liked fishing.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter and her husband, Carol and John Byl of Sioux Center; a son and his wife, Robert and Jeanette Van De Brake of Santee, CA; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four brothers, Cornie of Denver, CO, Martin of Vista, CA., Gilbert of Orange City and Bill of Montclair, CA; and a sister, Martha Mulder of Norwalk, CA.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stillborn son, a sister, Nellie Vander Pol; and a brother, Gerald.

Memorials are being directed to Christian Education.
