Died: January 30, 1986 Sioux Center, IowaJohn R. Vander Schaaf, 80, of Sioux Center died Friday Jan. 30 at the Sioux Center Nursing Home after a long illness.
Services were Feb. 2. at Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg, the Rev. Robert Hector officiating. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery at Sioux Center.
Vander Schaaf was born Nov. 19, 1906 in Sioux Center. He lived his youth on a farm near Sioux Center and attended rural school. He married Harriet Vermeer on April 24, 1929, in Sioux Center. they farmed near Sioux Center and Middleburg until retiring into Orange City in 1972. He entered the Sioux Center Nursing Home a week ago.
He was a member of Free Grace Reformed Church where he served as deacon and elder.
Survivors include his wife; six sons, James and Delbert, both of Orange City, Herlon of Rock Valley, Wayne of Boyden, Milton of Hardwick, MN, and Roger of Lake Wilson, MN; six daughters, Wilma Schelling of Orange City, Henrietta Vander Broek of Sioux Center, June Driesen of Rock Valley, Audrey Van Grouw of Le Mars, Helen Statema of Alton, and Arlys Zomermaand of Maurice; two sisters, Angeline Vermeer and Margaret Rensink, both of Sioux Center; 53 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
