Funeral Service for Guy Van Meveren, Sr. Held Wednesday

Funeral services for Guy Van Meveren, Sr., retired farmer and veteran of WW-I, were held at 2 p.m. yesterday from Tracy Lutheran church with the Rev. Richard L. Peterson and Rev. Wm. F. Lehmann officiating.

Military rites were conducted at graveside in Tracy cemetery. Pallbearers were John Stoltenburg, Kenneth Ross, James Wyffels, Ronald Nelson, Robert Radke and Arlo Ziemke.

Mr. Van Meveren was born Aug. 14, 1895, at Hospers, Ia., son of Arie and Elizabeth Van Meveren, and passed away from a heart attack Sunday morning in the Tracy hospital after a brief illness. He was 72.

He was married to Nellie Della Nelson at Redwood Falls on Oct. 20, 1920, after which he farmed at Leota, Minn., then in the Lake Wilson and Milroy communities as well as Balaton before coming to Tracy in 1930.

He worked as a farmer, mechanic and owned and operated a grocery and gas station for nine years.

Mr. Van Meveren was a veteran of World War I, serving 1918-1919 in France, Germany and Belgium. He was a past member of the American Legion of Balaton and the VFW.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and two daughters: Guy Van Meveren, Jr., Tracy; Arie Allen Van Meveren, Marshall; Mrs. Audrey Thompson, Colman, S.D., and Mrs. Lula Mariner of Hot Springs, Calif. One daughter, Elizabeth Pearl Radke, is deceased, and one son, Elwyn, died in infancy.

Three brothers survive: Theodore, Wabasso; Arie, Tracy, and Elmer Van Meveren of Lakewood, Calif. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Van Meveren was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Harry, and four infant grandchildren.

Ohman-Butson funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
