Mrs. Agnes Cornelius, age 84, of Hospers, passed away Saturday, February 28, at the Orange City Municipal Hospital Long Term Care Facility. There will be a memorial service on Friday, March 5, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church in Hospers. The Rev. Milton Sikkema will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Hospers Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hospers.

Agnes was born September 30, 1919, in Garfield, New Jersey, the daughter of John and Irene (Guis) Lakefield. She was raised at Garfield. On June 27, 1942, she married Kenneth Fred Cornelius at Garfield. They first made their home in Garfield and later moved to Ridgefield, New Jersey. There she served as secretary and custodian of the Old English Neighborhood Reformed Church and Cemetery for 38 years. In 1991, they moved to Hospers. In January of 2002, she became a resident of the Long Term Care Facility. Mrs. Cornelius was currently a member of the First Reformed -Church. She was formerly a very active member of the Old English Neighborhood Reformed Church, where she participated in all the women's activities. She enjoyed cooking, baking, entertaining, cleaning, and reading.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Ken; a daughter and her husband, Arlene and David Raak, of Hospers; three grandchildren, Ruth, and her husband,Matt Kuster, of Mankato, Minnesota; Rachel, and her husband, Jeff Law, of Correctionville; and Paul Raak, of Alexandria, .Virginia; a great-granddaughter granddaughter, Jordan Kuster; a sister, Wilma Ludvik, of Saddlebrook, New Jersey; and a brother, Cornelius Lakefield, of Paramus, New Jersey. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Nicholas Lakefield, and a sister, Adrianna Mouw. Memorials will be directed to Hospice
