Arlene R. Dekkers, 66, of Hawarden,died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at her residence near Hawarden. Funeral service was Jan. 26 at the Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden with the Rev. Nathan de Vries officiating. Burial was in the Grace Hill Cemetery. Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden was in charge of arrangements.

Arlene R. Dekkers was born May 24,1937 at Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore "Ted" and Geraldine (Hofmeyer)DeJong. She attended Ireton Christian School and married Anthony J. Dekkers Sept. 25,1957 at Ireton. The couple lived in Florida for a short time while Anthony served in the US Navy. They lived in Ireton before they began farming northeast of Hawarden.

Arlene was an active member of the Christian Reformed Church in Hawarden serving in Sunday School, as Youth Leader and in the Dorcas Aid. She was an Avon representative for 24 years.

Survivors include her husband Anthony J.; her two children, Janelle Tresa Dekkers of Pleasanton, Calif, and Myron Lee Dekkers of Hawarden; one granddaughter; a brother, Alfred B. DeJong of Ireton; and two sisters, Jeanette Groenendyk of Hudsonville, Mich, and Thelma Bomgaars of Maurice. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Gaylene Rose and a son, Arnold Jay.
